Dear Georgetown University Alumni Community,
It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you that this year’s John Carroll Weekend in Bermuda has been canceled. Georgetown University has been closely monitoring the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and we believe this decision is in the best interest of the health and safety of our entire Georgetown community.
On March 7, the university extended its 美达加速器 apk international travel moratorium to include ALL university-sponsored or related non-essential international travel for 美达加速器官网地址 through May 15, 2020. This moratorium recognizes the dynamic nature of the situation, possible disruptions to international travel and health care, and potential challenges in reentering the United States from abroad. John Carroll Weekend is a cherished tradition, and the time we take to connect, celebrate, and honor service to our community is irreplaceable. But cura personalis, care of the whole person, is a core Georgetown value. Above all else, we prioritize the health and safety of our alumni, friends, families, employees, and contributors to the weekend.
We regret the inconvenience caused by this cancellation. For those who have already registered for the weekend, you will receive a full refund for John Carroll Weekend events in the coming days.
We have canceled all hotel room reservations so you do not need to call the Fairmont Southampton to cancel. Your credit card will not be charged. If you still wish to visit Bermuda on those dates, please call the hotel at +1 (441) 238-8000 to reinstate your reservation. The Fairmont Southampton will honor the JCW rate. I want to again congratulate the 2020 John Carroll and Patrick Healy award recipients. We look forward to honoring our awardees in the future and will provide more detailed celebration plans as soon as we are able.

We will be processing reimbursements for those registered in the coming days.
I made a gift in support of John Carroll Weekend 2020. Will I be reimbursed?
Yes, we will gladly provide for the return of those contributions. We will reach out to sponsors directly to facilitate reimbursements in the coming days.
I made reservations at the Fairmont Southampton. Will the JCW hotel room rate still be honored?
Yes, if you will still be traveling to Bermuda, the Fairmont Southampton will be honoring the $319/night room rate from April 16 to 19.
I made reservations at the Fairmont Southampton. How do I cancel my reservation?
We have canceled all hotel room reservations so you do not need to call the Fairmont Southampton to cancel. Your credit card will not be charged.
I’m still planning on traveling to Bermuda. Do you have recommendations for activities?
The Fairmont Southampton resort offers a wide variety of activities, but we have also partnered with a local vendor, Winnow, which specializes in highly curated experiences around the island. You can email Alison and William at Winnow to arrange outings for you and your group.
Why are we canceling the event when there are not any documented instances of COVID-19 in Bermuda at the time of this decision?
This difficult decision was made in the interest of the health and safety of our Georgetown community: alumni, staff, faculty, and friends. It recognizes the dynamic nature of the situation, possible disruptions to international travel and health care, and potential challenges in reentering the United States from abroad.
Will you choose a new location this year’s Awards Banquet?
Given the very fluid nature of the Coronavirus situation, the ongoing possibility of travel restrictions and the priority we attach to the health and well being of all our community, we will not be rescheduling John Carroll Weekend in 2020.
When will we celebrate the 2020 John Carroll and Patrick Healy awardees?
We look forward to honoring our 2020 awardees at a later date. We will provide more detailed celebration plans as soon as we are able.
